Welcome to the Independent Science Fiction Writers website. A place where self-published writers of science fiction – fantasy and horror can meet, pass ideas, promote their work and help each other out. It’s not just a place to pitch ideas but a place to meet new friends and hopefully grow a community that will show the publishing world we are serious and here to stay. To become a member all you need to do is have independently published a short story, novella or novel. At the link above, you will find the full rules and how to join the ISFW community. It is our hope that this website will become a handy tool in all your writing endeavors.

Jack Blaine
I write because I love to think about “what ifs” and I usually see whole worlds spring up around those thoughts.  So I end up telling myself a story about that world, and what it’s like there.

Robert Collins
My third novel, "Monitor," came out last year from Whiskey Creek Press.  My second science fiction novel, "Lisa's Way," was released in 2008 by eTreasures Publishing.  I've recently re-released my first SF novel, "Expert Assistance."  I've had stories and articles appear in periodicals such as Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine; Tales of the Talisman; Space Westerns; Sorcerous Signals; Wild West; and Model Railroader. In 2007 Pelican released my biography of "Bleeding Kansas" leader Jim Lane, and before that a biography of a Kansas Civil War general.  I've had six Kansas railroad books published by South Platte Press.

Steven Wood Collins
website
scollins@retopia-ltd.comc
A former Wall Street stock broker and trader with over twenty-years of intangible investment and trading experience. He graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley during the 1970s.

Puramore is Mr Collins’ first novel. An American by birth and education, he wrote the work from the perspective of a contemporary British novelist in order to enhance thematic elements as well as character development and portrayal. His perspective as the author from that standpoint was largely influenced by George Orwell, Arthur C. Clarke, and William Blake.
He’s an expert scuba diver who enjoys traveling to exotic dive sites. His love of the sea and marine life gives him an unbounded appreciation and support of “green” issues, especially those devoted to the conservation of endangered species and coral reefs.
Mr Collins' two current literary projects include the sequel to Puramore and a satirical comedy novel, entitled The Shovells (read first draft sample at http://www.retopia-ltd.com/Blog/Blogger.aspx). At present, the title for the sequel is The Retopians. He plans to complete manuscripts for both works within the next two years.
He resides in Costa Rica with his Costa Rican wife.

Carl Frederick (Frithrik)

carl@frithrik.com
My first published story was in 2001, in 'Space And Time' magazine. I've been in two Writers of the Future anthologies and have had five stories in various 'Phobos Books' prize anthologies. I've had a few stories each in 'Asimov's, 'Baen's Universe', and 'Andromeda Spaceways'. The bulk of my work however, appears in 'Analog' Magazine. Since my first to them in 2003, Analog as accepted over thirty-five submissions. A detailed bibliography may be found on my website, www.frithrik.com
I'm a theoretical physicist (relativity & quantum measurement theory, and astrophysics), formerly at Cornell and NASA. I'm an epee fencer, a bagpiper, a nut on animals, and learn languages as a hobby. I attended the year 2000 Odyssey SF Writers Workshop and was a first-place winner in the Writers of the Future Contest.
Now, through the wonders of Kindle/Nook, I'm self-publishing my novels and anthologies (I have five novels and three anthologies up so far, and two more almost ready). And so that I might have a unified presence throughout e-space, I'm now using my college nickname, Frithrik.

Nancy Fulda has earned at least three awards for her writing -- possibly more,
depending on how you count them -- and has been honored by the National Space
Society
for "That Undiscovered Country", a space colonization story that
combines literary excellence with stringent scientific accuracy.  Nancy is a
trained computer scientist, the mother of three children, an incurable dance
fan, and the author of nearly two dozen short stories. She is frantically
working on her first full-length novel.

John Hindmarsh
I have dreamed of writing since I was twelve years old. My first efforts were – in pencil, of course – space operas engendered by H. G. Wells and Jules Verne. Over the years I have experienced a left-right brain conflict, with the logical 'let's earn regular income' side winning regular arguments against the creative side, especially given the traditional book publishing approach where the author is a very tiny attribute in an overarching corporate venture. Today the publishing scene is changing rapidly, driven by technology, so my first book is an ebook, published by Rexon Press.

Matt Maxwell
Matt Maxwell is the creator/writer of the western/horror comic series STRANGEWAYS, which has been ongoing since 2008. He is also the author of the recent short story collection TUG ON THE RIBBON AND OTHER STORIES which ranges from magical-realist near-future SF to the dark and smoky LUNA SANGRE which blends science fiction and fantasy to CRUNCH TIME which is a blackly humorous look at office life in the time of the zombie apocalypse.
He is also the author of RAGNAROK SUMMER, which will begin online serialization in spring of 2011. The second STRANGEWAYS book, entitled THE THIRSTY is due for printing towards the end of the year. He is also hard at work on the third STRANGEWAYS collection, entitled THE LAND WILL KNOW.
At one time or another, he was a digital animator and visual effects artist, an office monkey in a university thinktank, the guy who got jammed quarters out of your arcade machines, direct-mail stuffer for a televangelist you've probably been spammed by, teacher of 3D animation and thanatology (though not at the same time), has driven across the US once that he remembers and knows where to find the last of the wild V-8s.

Charles F. Millhouse (isfw admin)
Website

I have been an avid fan of science fiction all my life, from written works by William F. Nolan to the fantastic worlds created by Frank Herbert.  I find my writing style has manifested itself into more of a fast paced action adventure type of writing and I’m comfortable with that style.  I know I have a lot to learn about writing, but I feel it has improved a great deal over the years.  I am currently working on a supernatural western as well as working on the third book in my Talon’s Epic series.

William Monje
I have been a professional artist and writer my entire life, particularly working in the theatre beginning as a set designer/scenic artist and more recently a produced playwright. As a writer I have shorter pieces of fiction and a considerable amount of nonfiction, including writing and editing for what we used to call “underground newspapers” back in the late sixties and through the seventies. More recently I have been writing novels of epic proportion, mostly character-driven science fiction with lots of space adventure action. Six e-books—including three in a series—formatted for the Kindle have been published on Amazon.

Carol Parsons
Carol Parsons is a long-time sci fi fan living in rural West Texas.  She and her husband have raised four children in the tradition of Star Trek and Star Wars and she is an aficionado of Japanese animé.
When not working on a novel, Carol is the editor of The Colorado City Record (in Texas, not Colorado) and has a degree in journalism.
She had published Advent Phoenix (Vol. 1 in the Journals of the Peregrine series) and Dictates of Conscience (Vol. 2).  both books are stand alone stories, since Carol hates "Borg" series, i.e. seven of nine series where every book has to be read before a story is resolved.
Carol's experiences overseas in Ecuador,  her love for the land and different cultures show up in her character-driven novels.
